Veterans Eagle Canes Inquiry (采购产品): Veterans Eagle Canes Hello, I am writing to you representing Maine Wood Carvers Association. Our organization is involved in a national Veterans' Eagle Cane project. We recently made a wonderful contact at Togus VA Hospital in Augusta, and are getting referrals for these canes at a rate we never predicted. Our first batch of canes were made with ash tool handles that we purchased from a company outside of Maine because they were recommended to us by a group in another state. The handles are 36" long dowels, and taper from 1 3/4" to 3/4". I was able to enlist the aid of the Maine Wood Turners Association members, who are turning the 2 1/2" X 3/4 tenons at the top that will fit into the neck of the carved eagle heads as well as a decorative bead about 5" down from the tenon to set off an area that our carvers will use to personalize these canes with any ribbons or information that the recipient desires. The ideal dowel would taper from 1 3/4" to 3/4" with a 1 1/2" tenon. The originators of this project, based in Oklahoma, are limiting their recipients to post 9/11 Purple Heart Veterans. Our local groups prefer that our canes go to any service person injured in service to our country. This is a worthwhile, and at times, very emotional project. We charge nothing for these canes, with all expenses coming from our $1/week dues. We have been paying $2 each plus shipping for these shafts, a special price that the owner of the tool company has given to participants of this program as his donation to it. Not only is shipping from the South expensive, but it is our preference to have canes going to Maine veterans made here in Maine, including the shafts. Is there any way that you can help us with this program? I have set up a page on the Maine Wood Carvers Association web page dedicated to this project at http://mainewoodcarvers.org/caneproject.html and if you need any additional information, please feel free to contact me.
