Description High-accuracy electro-magnetic actuator to replace cam in assembly line applications Overview: We are seeking companies/institutes with one of the following technologies that may be applicable to automated assembly lines. We are looking for a high-speed, high-accuracy electro-magnetic actuator system that can replace a cam in motion- and position-control applications. Background: High-accuracy, high-speed motion control is critical in mass-manufacturing assembly lines. There are two basic technologies, NC techniques and cams, for high-speed motion control. Cams are purpose-designed, and restrict the applictions where they can be used. Although cams can provide higher speed than NC techniques, there is little or no flexibility. Cams also require time to design, produce, and most importantly adjust on the line. NC can overcome those issues, but it is difficult to make high-speed movement. Therefore we seek a high speed electro-magnetic actuator that can take the place of a cam and offer a shorter set-up time. This would offer us a wide range of applicability to different types of assembly lines.
