When the Armel Elementary School's boilers fire up this winter, they will be burning a fuel emulsion of oil and water. In April, 2009 the Armel Elementary School in Frederick County, Virginia became the first U.S. public school to heat using new green technology which emulsifies water and oil in real time, thereby saving fuel oil and reducing noxious emissions. Armel School is part of Frederick County, a progressive, environmentally aware mid-Atlantic school system having achieved dramatic savings in fuel consumption through comprehensive management and operating initiatives also having a positive impact on reducing noxious heating plant emissions.
