Custom winch design Inquiry (采购产品): Custom winch design We are planning to fly some high altitude balloon missions with NASA over the next few years and we anticipate the need for a custom winch design. We have fabricated a full-scale version of this system and expect to have a demonstration flight on a large NASA balloon in the next year or so. As part of the gondola, we need a winch system that can lower the wing assembly at the beginning of the flight, although the dissipation of the energy will be handled by equipment external to the winch, and then retract the line at the end of the flight after the wing assembly has been cut away from the bottom end of the line. At this point, we are requesting a rough order of magnitude (ROM) estimate of the cost, mass, power and size of a winch capable of meeting the following requirements: Winch Requirements Operate on a balloon floating at an altitude of 115,000 ft Retract a 50,000-foot long tether weighing 90 pounds with a diameter of 1/16" (1.6 mm) hanging vertically Retraction rate to get all the line up in 60 minutes. Allow line to spool out with a small back tension to prevent tangling, but lowering loads handled by external device. DC electric operation with power supply variations in the range 24 V to 32 V Level wind for retraction or other reliable line-handling means to ensure tangle-free retraction. Target overall weight of winch without tether less than 200 lb (but low priority up to 500 lb). If you need more clarification, e-mail is my preference.
