Requirements: The contract calls for six Class 2 laser distance measurement devices. Four of the lasers will be used to measure movement of flood control barriers subjected to wave action. The barrier will be up to 30 m from the lasers. The other two lasers will be mounted on standpipes and pointed down at reflectors floating on the surface of the water within the standpipes to measure differences in water elevation within the standpipe. The water elevation will be between 0.2 m and 3 m from the lasers. All 6 lasers should be interchangeable for ease of setup and redundancy. Equipment: laser measurement device with Class 2 lasers including visible beam for aiming Range: 0.2 m to 30 m Accuracy: +/- 3 mm Measurement interval: 0.2 sec to 5 sec Operating temperature: 20 degree F to 100 degree F The lasers will be used in a high-humidity environment in a building with no environmental controls (no heating or air conditioning). The contract will include all cables, hubs, converters, power supplies, etc, required such that all 6 lasers (or any number less than 6) will connect to no more than two USB ports on a PC-compatible laptop computer. The computer, power supplies, and connecting hub will be in one central location. The cables and power supply cords will allow the lasers to be located in different directions up to 10 m away from this central location. The computer is not part of the contract. Software: Software will be provided that provides both numerical value and graphical display over time of all 6 lasers simultaneously on the computer screen. Measurements from the lasers will be stored on the computer in an ASCII file or a file that can be converted to ASCII. Use of a commercial package such as LabView is acceptable, in which case the contract will include a one-user license and program suitable for producing the numerical value and graphical display over time of all 6 lasers.
