We do friction and wear testing of all sorts of experimental materials, and from time to time, need consistent special surface finishes on custom test specimens. At this time we have 90 disk specimens (approx. 24mm Dia x 8mm H) of 52100 steel, Rc hardness 60, with a surface ground finish in need of lapping. The following lapped surface specifications should apply (excerpts from ASTM D5706 and D5707). The surfaces of the disk being lapped and free of lapping raw materials. The topography of the disk will be determined by four values, 24-mm diameter by 7.85 mm thick: 0.5 μm < Rz < 0.650 μm 0.035 μm < C.L.A. (Ra) < 0.050 μm 0.020 μm < Rpk < 0.035 μm 0.050 μm < Rvk < 0.075 μm We are interested in hearing from you regarding pricing to perform this precision lapping AND/OR equipment we can buy, how many disks can be lapped at a time, your proposed quality control procedures to assure specs are met with optimum repeatability and turn-around times.
