Inquiry (采购产品): Questions concerning DLC coatings Dear Sir/Madam: I am the Program Manager for a project that will design, build, and test a high capacity centrifugal compressor for compressing pure hydrogen gas. The project is being sponsored by the Department of Energy and is part of their program for supporting the Hydrogen Economy Fuel plan. The materials of construction for the compressor rotor will be either a high strength aluminum alloy or titanium. These base materials must be coated or plated in order to prevent or at least inhibit hydrogen diffusion into the base material. An untreated rotor may suffer hydrogen embrittlement after prolonged operation and thus experience premature failure due to the stress caused by operation at very high rotational speeds. I am interested in learning if DLC coatings can be used in this application and if your company has the interest and capability to assist in the future engineering of this new compressor. The answer to the following questions may help determine the extent of your interest and capability. 1. The centrifugal compressor rotor consists of multiple vanes on a 6 inch diameter x 4 inch wide rotor not unlike the photo shown here. Can this geometry be treated with your DLC coating techniques? Does your company have any prior experience with this or a similar application? 2. What is the bonding strength (Lbf tearing force or psi shearing stress) of the DLC coating on aluminum and titanium? The surface finish of this rotor can be made to suit your coating requirements but the coating must be able to be later finished to a FC4 finish. 3. What is the coefficient of thermal expansion for the DLC coating? 4. What is the typical applied typical thickness for the coating? 5. Does your company have test experience with DLC exposed to hydrogen? What is the permeability (if known) of the DLC material exposed to hydrogen? 6. Does your company have any tensile test results of specimens prepared with DLC coatings? Thank you for your attention and responses.
