Beeswax Processing Inquiry (采购产品): Beeswax Processing My name is Richard Bellamy, I work in the Contact Lens manufacturing industry. We use a compound of other petroleum based waxes mixed with Beeswax to adhere the material used for contact lenses to a metal carrier – this allows us to machine both sides of the contact lens polymer to finish the profile of the lens. There has been an EU Directive which was actually aimed at the use of Animal derivatives within the medical device industry but has also captured materials of insect derivation as well. However, the Directive states that it is aimed at derivatives ‘Rendered’ non-viable – so for Bovine related CJD, this is very relevant, (but not to Wax!), however, I am questioning whether Beeswax is ‘Rendered’ non-viable, I believe it to be non-viable already. In order to complete my report, I do need to understand a little more about any pre-processing beeswax may be subject to prior to sale to Pharmaceutical type applications, for example, bleaching, sterilising, refining (any additives or heat treatment) – filtering, treatment for the removal of any known pathogens, removal of any foreign bodies etc. I am only interested in generic information of wax industry suppliers - not proprietry individual company process information. Can you help me here – or point me in another direction? I look forward to hearing from you, Kind regards Richard Richard Bellamy MBA MCMI Senior Engineering Manager Lathe Business Unit Coopervision Manufacturing Ltd Aspect House Hamble Lane Hamble Southampton SO31 4JR Tel: +44 (0) 2380 60 4444 Mob: 07871 443374 E: richard.bellamy@coopervision.co.uk CooperVision Manufacturing Limited.
