Inquiry (采购产品): Shock Transmission Units Dear sir On behave of the structural revision committee of the new InterContinental hotel project we would be grateful if you could give us some technical information about the possibility of using the STU "Shock Transmission Units" in this project. The proposed structural system of the main part of the hotel complex consists of an 161.15 to 186.65 meter long building without any expansion or seismic joints, width of the building is 20.80 m, the shape of the main part is an arch with a radius of 131.40 m for the inner side and 152.20 m for the outer side and an angle of 70.3 degree, total height of the building is 83.35 m from which 11.03 m is under ground level, foundation is raft on piles. Project location is in seismic zone 3 according to the universal zone classification. Temperature varies between -5 in winter to +48 in summer, the building will be air heated and conditioned all year around. The revision committee wants to divide the structural system of the main building into three parts by means of forming two expansion joints 4 cm width each and using the STU at the joint areas. We appreciate your answers to our following queries: 1- Can the STU be used in such type of buildings? 2- How can the STU provide the transverse and radial stiffness of the curved shape structure? If not how can such stiffness be achieved? 3- Is it advisable to use STU at each level or at top and bottom levels? 4- Is it advisable to use one high capacity STU at the recommended levels or several small units? 5- Can small units be embedded in concrete slabs? 6- Finally can your company assist in the non-linear structural design procedure of the system using the most suitable and economical STU?
