Inquiry (采购产品): glass tubing Dear Sirs, I am looking for a supplier of a prototype glass tube as follows: OD: approx 4.8 inch - ID: see below (weight) - Length: approx 8 inch 1- The tube is to be capped on both sides with glass caps. 2- Both caps will be provided with a centerpoint in the exact middle of the caps. 2- After the caps are glued to the tube the weight of the total should be exactly half the weight of the weight of the same volume of water. 3- Thus, when the completed tube is placed in water, it will then be immersed to exactly the centerpoints. 4- Also the floating tube has to be "balanced" so that it will be floating horizontal. 5- The most important condition by far however is that the tube will remain steady in each radial position. In my opinion the only way to produce such a tube is as follows: 1- Start with a tube with oversize OD and undersize ID. 2- Centerlees grind the OD. 3- Centerless grind the ID. 4- Produce the caps with a diameter equal to the tube OD. 5- Glue the caps to the tube. 6- Check the assembled tube for horizontal floating and, if necessary, correct by grinding the cap on 1 side. 7- Centerless grind the OD of the assembly till the required weight is reached. I think that only centerless grinding of the ID after centerless grinding of the OD can guarrantee the required concentricity. Please note that the OD, ID and length dimensions are of little importance. The only thing that really matters is the condition under 5-. Please let me know which of the above operations you can provide and at what price. (I understand this will be a costly tube !) Best regards, Frank van Harreveld HARTOOL Co.
