Specifications of PH 13-8Mo steel powder PH 13-8Mo steel powder should be produced by inert gas atomization technique and it should meet both chemical composition and physical property requirements given below. (a) Chemical composition * : Element / Weight % Chromium 12.25 - 13.25 Nickel 7.50 - 8.50 Molybdenum 2.00 - 2.50 Aluminum 0.90 - 1.35 Carbon 0.05 Max. Manganese 0.10 Max. Silicon 0.10 Max. Phosphorous 0.010 Max. Sulphur 0.008 Max. Nitrogen 0.010 Max. Iron Balance * Oxygen content of the powder should be less than 200 ppm (b) Physical properties of powder: i. PH 13-8Mo steel powder should be produced by inert gas atomization technique and its particle shape should be spherical. ii. The powder particle size should be in the range of 180-37 ì m with median particle size in the range of 70-90 ì m. The presence of powder particles of size less than 45 ì m is desirable up to 6 wt. % iii. The tap density of the powder should be =64 % of the theoretical density of the alloy. iv. The flow rate of the powder should be better than 20 seconds for 50 grams (c) Powder packing: The powder should be filled in high purity argon back-filled high density polypropylene bottles of 5.0 Kg capacity and sealed properly to avoid contamination during storage and transport. Alternatively, the powder can be vacuum packed in low permeability plastic coated foil laminated bags of same capacity. These bottles or bags can be kept in steel containers of appropriates size for safe transport. (d) Acceptance criteria: The supplier should submit a test certificate to validate the chemical composition, oxygen level and physical properties of the powder batch supplied.
