The product is granular (DDGS, canola meal, soybean meal,…) and the heat source is fluid (water or glycol solution). ? Flow configuration MUST be countercurrent as both the resulting heated product and cooled fluid are used elsewhere within the system. ? Airflow in and out is not desired. Circulation of air within a temperature zone is fine. Such air will be nearly saturated during steady state operation. ? Control is accomplished with inlet fluid temperature and fluid flow rate. Product flow and properties are constant (subject to biological variability). ? Hot-end temperatures are estimated at 195oF for product out and 210oF fluid in. ? Cold-end temperatures are estimated at 80oF product in and 95oF fluid out. ? If the 15oF ΔT is too small, the fluid temperatures will need to be higher. ? Two different product capacities/flow rates are request. The larger is 3x the smaller.
