The GE 100 watt bulb is 6"" in length and the bottom half of the bulb is covered with a silver coating so that light is directed out the sides of the bulb and not out the bottom. There are shades that clamp onto the light bulb. I have two of these fixtures and am interested in finding a source for replacement bulbs.
