(RMB) has been retained by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) to conduct an Umbilical Failure Study for Hg CEMS installed at electric utility sources. I would like for your company to participate in this study and provide RMB with as much information as you feel comfortable with providing. I would like to make clear that the purpose of this project is to inform the utility industry on the issues/problems that have been experienced thus far, the corrective action(s) that have been taken to address said issues and to ultimately to provide guidance to utilities on the latest approaches and installation procedures that should be implemented to reduce the likelihood of umbilical failure. I would also like to state that anonymity will be maintained for all participants and this in NO WAY will yield a “Got Ya” type report. Notwithstanding, RMB would like to compile as much data as possible from all umbilical vendors and quantify industry wide failure rates/modes, but not attribute “Vendor A” with the most failures, etc. I have already spoken with representatives of Tekran, Thermo, and Spectrum Systems and they have all agreed to participate in this study. I am currently in the process of contacting representatives from the other umbilical manufacturers (i.e. Dekoron, Parker, , O’brian, etc.) along with integrators and requesting that they participate in this study as well. I look forward to hearing a response and would appreciate any information you are willing to submit.
