Prototype for new invention Inquiry (采购产品): Prototype for new invention My wife and I found your company via the ThomasNet web site. After reading the services you provide, we thought you may be of assistance to us. We have invented, and filed a patent for, a product for the home gardening/yard maintenance market. We have made a working prototype that we have used to test the product functionality. However since the working prototype is home-made, and as result of slight design modifications from our tests, the working prototype is not exactly in the form we wish to produce. Therefore we are looking to have a professional prototype made, based on our patent application drawings, that we would use as basis for the manufacturing of our product and subsequent sales. Our product is based on a one piece solid plastic design requiring no assembly. Our product's largest dimensions are 28 inches in diameter and 3 inches high. In cross section, we estimate the plastic to be 1/8 inch thick throughout, (although this dimension may change due to materials used). The plastic must be durable (resistant to cracking and tearing), slightly flexible, and yet maintain its shape. The plastic color should also resist fading. Being novices to manufacturing in general, and plastics in particular, we are looking for some guidance in choosing our next steps. Some of the questions we have are: ? Does your company only make prototypes or do you manufacture final products as well? ? Are prototypes created in the same manner as the final product (material, molds, etc), or is a less expensive method used? ? Do you have any product size constraints? ? How easy is it to alter the prototype if design changes are required? ? How do we determine the type of plastic to be used to produce the product? ? How does your company handle confidentiality issues? ? How are prototype prices determined? ? How are final product prices determined? ? What is considered a “short-run”? ? What is the difference between rotational and injection molding? I’m sure there are other questions we should be asking and we are looking to you to provide us with any additional information or guidance. We are looking forward to hearing from you.
