The average running time for 50 512x512 test images (landscape, aerial, fingerprint, portrait, newspaper, medical, and texture images) was 1.4 ms on a PC (Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz 2GB Memory, Linux OS). Our algorithm is much faster than any other conventional labeling algorithm. We estimate that our algorithm should be more than 10 times faster than the one you are using. We believe our labeling algorithm is essential for real-time pattern recognition and other high-speed image processing systems.
