I have an inquiry from my client for Semi-Automatic Winding machine for lithium ion battery manufacturing. The detailed specification is given below. Scope Design, Fabrication, Supply, Installation, Commissioning and Demonstration of Semi Automatic Winding machine for winding of lithium ion cell stacks as per our specification. The machine should have the capability to work in the dry room conditions where the RH is less than 0.5% 2. Description of application: The machine will be used to wind the negative and positive electrodes along with separator on cylindrical / flat mandrel to form lithium ion cell stack. The electrodes and separator will be made available in continuous spool form. Each spool should be mounted at the respective locations. Winding should be done in such a manner that all the four layers are to be in a sequential order of electrode—separator—electrode- separator. The films have to be fed continuously to the winding head under tension with proper edge control. The winding head or fixture with mandrel should be driven by variable speed motor at a controlled speed. In-order to keep the films free from wrinkles and to maintain the stack tightness, tension control system has to be provided. The machine should have the capability to wind cylindrical cell of 18650 configuration and 5Ah, 50Ah cells in elliptic cylindrical configuration. 3. Detailed Technical Specification 3.1. Type of machine: SEMI AUTOMATIC 3.2 Component to be made :cell stacks of, I) 18650 cylindrical II) 5Ah elliptic cylindrical III) 50Ah elliptic cylindrical 3.3 Materials to be found Negative and positive electrodes along with two layers of separator alternatively positioned are to be wound on a single mandrel. Positive electrodes with metal oxides coated on both sides on aluminium foil of 20 micron thickness. Negative electrodes with graphite coated on both sides on copper foil of 10 to 20 micron thickness. Separator film made of polyolefin material of 25 micron thickness. Dimension details of stack, electrodes and separator given in Table-1 3.4. Type of winding 1) Standard cylindrical winding mandrel for 18650 cells 2) Split flat mandrel for elliptic cylindrical cells. Mandrel details are given in table -1 point no.5 3.5 Winding accuracy Machine should have a winding accuracy of better than 0.5mm for edge control 3.6 Winding speed Servomotor type variable speed drive system should be provided to keep the winding speed uniform from beginning of winding to end. Actual speed of winding along with pre set value should be displayed on line during winding. 3.7 Winding head One Machine should have the capability to wind cell stacks of different configuration mentioned in the specification by changing only the winding head and mandrel sets. Rotation of winding head must be reversible through selector switch as and when required. 3.8 Tension control Tension of electrodes and separator layers should be settable to get a wrinkle free, tightly wound stack. It should be possible to set the tension separately for each spool. Based on the preset value tension should be displayed during winding. 3.9 Wound product Dimension control The machine should be provided with product dimension control mechanism. Entire operation in the machine shall be limited by the width of the stack. Once the required dimension is achieved by winding it should be measurable and if necessary it should be capable to make additional winding also. For cylindrical cell stack diameter and for elliptic cylindrical stack width shall be measured. Cylindrical stack diameter-------------------18 ±1mm 5Ah Elliptic cylindrical stack width -------- 50±2mm 50Ah Elliptic cylindrical stack width -------130±5mm 4 Machine control system Programmable logic controller with appropriate safety inter locks must be provided to ensure trouble free operation of the machine. Independent controls shall be provided for winding head, Electrode spools, Separator spools and tension. The control system should have the capability to set the parameters thro user interface and display thro LCD. 5 Tape attachment Outer layer of adhesive tape fixing will be done manually after winding .Provision for mounting of tape roll shall be given appropriately on the machine. 6 Control panel Control panel should be provided with power main ON/OFF switch, power indication, start up switch, drive (forward/reverse)selector switch, speed and Tension display of electrodes and separator and an emergency stop switch with reset. 7 Input power The system should work with an input power of 230 volt±10%, 50Hz, single phase AC or 415 volt, 50Hz, Three phase AC or 415 volt, 50Hz, Three phase AC through ECLB. 8 Alarms System should have fail safe and audio/visual alarms for exceeding set limits to be provided 9 Safety Party has to clearly specify the safety features incorporated in the machine for operators as well as material. 10 General: 1. Schematic of general engineering arrangement of the machine and provision for change over of mandrels of various sizes shall be given in detail along with the offer. 2. Pre-delivery inspection at party’s site with actual winding samples is required prior to dispatch. 3. Quotation shall give full technical details supported by well documented catalogues / leaflets without which offer will not be considered. 4. Operation / maintenance manual, trouble shooting flowchart, detailed wiring diagrams / circuit and details of control system are to be provided. 5. Installation and commissioning has to be carried out by supplier our laboratory .Party has to give training for personal working in this area after successful installation and commissioning of the system. 6. Detailed description on control system in English should be provided. 7. All necessary safety interlocks and proper earthing shall be provided for operator’s safety. 8. Total integrated system shall be guaranteed for 2 years of trouble free operation. Beyond guarantee period party should be willing to take up annual maintenance contract for the machine. 9. List of spare parts for two years trouble free performance of the machine has to be specified and coated separately. 10. Party has to give complete calibration report of equipment at the time of delivery. The equipments, which require periodical calibration , may be indicated. 11. Overall layout drawing of the machine with dimensions, weight, and other relevant details of the machine should be provided in the quotation. 12. Party has to clearly spell out the utilities to be provided by the purchaser for the installation and commissioning of the equipment. 13. Additional features if any for the improvement of quality of the product can be quoted separately as optional. 14. Details of power requirements shall be clearly specified in the offer. 15. List of clients / installation detail in India shall be given along with the quotation. 16. Compliance matrix in the enclosed format should be filled and sent along with the quotation. 17.Vendors may clearly spell out whether export license / government clearance is required from the country of origin and the time required for processing the export license if required .Whether any advance action pending order release is possible for obtaining export license is required.
