Prototype Blanking Dies Inquiry (采购产品): Prototype Blanking Dies Hello: This is not a request for any service from M.D. Hubbard Spring Co., Inc., but rather the subject of making inexpensive blanking dies. When I came to the United States as a Tool & Diemaker from Scotland at the age of twenty three, having started serving my apprenticeship at the age of fifteen, I was employed at the Burroughs, (now Unisys) Plymouth, Michigan Plant; while there, I helped to perfect what was known as a third class blanking die. These dies can be made in the matter of a few days, they require NO die shoe, except when they were being made, after that, each one 'stands alone'. Blanks of intricate shapes and close tolerances in various thicknesses of steel ranging from .010" to .093" are readily attainable from this very inexpensive tooling, the only downside is that the average number of blanks produced per minute is seven. Nevertheless, not everyone requires hundreds of thousands of pieces for prototype, or experimental work. Cheap as these dies are, they would still be capable of stamping out any amount of consistently accurate blanks, ranging in number from a few dozen to several thousand. Another plus for this type of die, is that it is made from case hardened 1/2" thick C.R.S., they are something like Samurai Swords, soft cores and glass hard cutting edges. On the other hand, with oil, air, or water hardening tool steel dies are inclined to shatter if the clearance between punch and die is held to a minimum in an attempt to have less breakage on the blank's edge. I point this out knowing that so called cheap tooling is made using wire burning E.D.Ms on prehardened tool steel.
