requesting assitance

Inquiry (采购产品): requesting assitance I am looking for a building new or used to be donated to ARFkids Foundation. We supply service dog candidates for children with special needs. We now have our property but are in bad need of a building for the kennels for the breeding dogs. These dogs need a home so we can help more children. Here is information about the ARFkids Foundation. The "ArfKids" Mission A Rinty For Kids Foundation, incorporated To provide disabled and terminally ill children Service Dog candidates that will be specifically trained to assist in the improvement of the quality of life and accessibility of the child. Each specially selected ARFkids Service Dog candidate will be trained by the recipient family with assistance from volunteer ARFkids Training Partners and certified according to A Rinty For Kids Foundation, incorporated ("ARFkids") criteria. The ARFkids service dog candidate is placed with the recipient child at no cost. * A Rinty For Kids Foundation, in cooperation with Rin Tin Tin incorporated, has initiated a specific breeding program for ARFkids that includes dogs of the Rin Tin Tin lineage as well as qualified dogs from many of the nations most respected breeders of German Shepherd Dogs. The organization has also initiated a test-program which includes a In-Home Training Program to allow those families of disabled children to actually train their service dog puppy from an early age which negates the lengthy foster family situation commonly found in the previously traditional training process of a service dog. ARFkids is staffed by volunteers and funded completely by grants and donations. All ARFkids dogs used in the program will be neutered or spayed and placed according to pre-determined criteria. All ARFkids dogs will be "Service Dog" trained by the recipient family with assistance from volunteer certified training partners approved by ARFkids. Many Service Dog programs provide dogs to assist the disabled, however, due to long waiting lists and enormous costs (some as high as $15,000 per dog) many disabled children are excluded from the opportunity of acquiring such Certified Service Dogs. ARFkids progeny are currently working as Service Dogs for children in Texas, Missouri, Florida, and Colorado. ARFkids hopes to make placements of In-Home service dog candidate puppies by the end of 2003 or early in 2004 in California (2), Michigan, Missouri (3), New Hampshire, Texas (3), Illinois, Ohio and Nevada. Funding ARFkids, a non-profit organization, relies solely upon donations from individuals, corporations, foundations, and organizations. Individuals, Groups and Organizations may contribute through Direct Mail, Special Events, and Grants. Recent news on our kids and dogs…. Teen’s best friend Marly Kosinski By Kasha Legeza Record-Courier staff writer CHARLESTOWN - As 16-year-old Vickie Kelly watched an Animal Planet television show last fall about service dogs, she realized that such a companion could greatly enhance her life. What she didn’t realize is that less than one year later, she would be the proud owner of Rudy, a 75-pound German Shepherd who is a direct descendent of Hollywood superdog Rin Tin Tin. Now, Vickie looks forward to the start of her junior year at Southeast High School - a year filled with promise as she and her family reach training goals with Rudy that move Vickie closer to the level of independence she so strongly desires. Vickie, the daughter of Dennis and Eileen Kelly of Hanna Road, has cerebral palsy. She has the use of one arm, which allows her to get around via her “power chair” and to communicate via her “talker,” a small laptop computer she programs to speak for her. But there are many tasks Vickie wishes she didn’t have to depend on her parents, sister, Caitlyn, 13, or classroom aides to perform. Like opening and closing doors, turning light switches on and off, picking up dropped items and taking off her coat. That’s where Rudy comes in. The gentle 2-year-old canine already has proven himself to be a great doorman. In fact, training is under way to break Rudy of his “indiscriminate door opening” habit - amusing to an outsider, but not so funny to live with, according to the Kellys. The fact that Rudy is well past basic obedience training is a bonus the family did not anticipate. The process to acquire a service dog often involves a lengthy wait and high costs. Neither was the case for the Kelly family. Once Vickie expressed her desire for a dog last fall, her father, a sixth-grade teacher at Stanton Middle School in Kent, did some Internet research and learned about A Rinty For Kids Foundation - more commonly referred to as ARFkids. The Texas-based, non-profit organization provides puppies - most of them direct descendants of Rin Tin Tin - to disabled and terminally ill children at no cost to the recipient family. Families then play the major role in training their dog - with professional guidance - to improve the child’s quality of life. Vickie’s parents (Eileen is a Title 1 reading teacher at Crestwood Intermediate School in Mantua) made application to ARFkids, and in seemingly no time learned a great match had been found for Vickie in the form of Rudy. He previously had been paired with a toddler in Missouri who failed to bond with him. Nonetheless, that child’s mother continued Rudy’s training, including taking him each day to the university where she worked to enhance his socialization skills. The Missouri couple returned Rudy to the ARFkids program so that his great intelligence and compassionate nature could benefit another child. Rudy moved into his new home June 14, and made his first big outing with Vickie the following weekend in Columbus, accompanying her in the opening ceremony parade for the Special Olympics (she’s a medal-winning wheelchair slalom competitor). In addition to receiving a service dog past its puppyhood, the Kellys also lucked out when it comes to training assistance, as ARFkids’ national training director, Lou Ann Metz, happens to be a Ravenna resident. Metz has been working with Vickie and Rudy one to two times weekly, teaching them to operate as a team. Vickie is learning to communicate with Rudy in a variety of ways. There are hand signal commands and sensory commands, such as varying the number of tugs on his leash, which is attached to the arm of her wheelchair. Her family is charged with programming different voice commands into Vickie’s “talker.” Since Rudy has not been responding to the computer’s mechanized voice, they are recording commands and words of praise for him in their own voices. The training process has been going well, and Metz believes Rudy will be fully meeting Vickie’s needs within six months. But, his role is much greater than just physical support. It also includes social and emotional support. “Kids with disabilities are often excluded socially, and having a dog serves as an ice breaker that improves communication skills,” Metz said. “Rudy is also a teammate who helps Vickie become more independent in every way. The bonding that occurs is like a marriage. He learns to anticipate her needs, reading not only her motions, but also her emotions.” Vickie’s parents already have seen a positive change in their daughter. “Vickie is a movie addict, and she wasn’t socializing. Rudy has brought her out of her room. She works with him every day ... their bond just keeps growing,” Dennis said. <<BACK td 10 Requested Response Via: Phone, E-mail, Fax, Mail **** Hidden Message ***** KRisty Beal PO BOX 27 Crockett, TX 75835 USA Company: ARFkids Foundation Title: Fundraiser Phone: 832-355-8977 Fax: 832-355-6500 E-mail: fundraiser@arfkids.org **** Hidden Message ***** fundraiser@arfkids.org
