Inquiry (采购产品): Racism and corporate responsibility I read in the paper that your company is considering locating in Zephyrhills. Whether or not you do, it would be useful (assuming you are reasonably responsible corporate citizens) for you to make the point that one of your considerations in deciding to locate or not locate in Zephyrhills is its official decision to remove Rev. Martin Luther King's name from one of its streets. As you may know, Zephyrhills’city council voted to reverse its decision to name a street in honor of the civil rights leader under pressure from some of the nastiest and most public racists seen in the south for many years–a small group of local voters The city’s professional staff–from manager on down, deeply regretted the decision to take King’s name of f the street. The city even left the King signs up along with the replacement name to avoid the onus of having “before and after” pictures run in the international press. No other American city, especially a southern city, has removed King’s name from a street. The city’s Chamber of Commerce strongly urged retention of King’s name on the street–if naming the street after King was meant as an act of honoring, then removing the name was an act of dishonoring. I don’t advocate you folk not move to Zephyrhills. I am only suggesting–if you care, by putting the issue on the table as a business development issue for the city to consider, you can strengthen the commitment of the city’s pandering political leadership to stand down its vocal racists. It won’t cost you a thing to do good, regardless of your decision. **** Hidden Message ***** Doug Bevins 33523 USA Company: None Fax: none E-mail: bevins@3oaks.com **** Hidden Message ***** bevins@3oaks.com
