I am Shabbir Hussain Managing Director of DAZ International an apparel buying house operating in Bangladesh. Before elaborating the business activities of Daz, Let me give you a short resume of my background. I did my BS in Mechanical Engineering from India in 1991. After a short internship, I went to California USA and did my MBA in 1994 with major International Finance. On return to Bangladesh I joined a garment manufacturing unit set up by the family and associates as a director. Later I took over as its Managing Director in 1995 and continued in that position untill 2002. This was a medium scale industry which specialised in producing woven items for export primarily for USA. Presently another member of the family is looking after the affairs of the company. With my experience and the contact in the industry and the trading circles, I decided to concentrate in the trading of the readymade garments and set up DAZ International in 2003 as a buying house. Daz mainly deals with the export of the woven and Knit items for ladies, Mens and kids. During the past 2 years Daz has developed contacts with the industry in Bangladesh as well as overseas buyers. The export demand of the RMGs produced in Bangladesh continues to be strong and despite the abolition of the quota system under MFA and its full integration into ATC(Agreement on Textile and Clothing) from January 1, 2005, The demand in major market has remained steady. We expect that the demand shall continue to be steady also in the next few years. The RMG industry in Bangladesh has matured significantly during the past two decade. Bangladesh continues to produce RMGs which meets the quality standard of major International Buyers and the prices are also compititive compared to other exporting countries in the region. I expect that giving my academic background and hands on experience in the industry and the overall strength of the RMG industry in Bangladesh, DAZ shall do well in the coming years as a buying house. I have developed excellent contacts both in the industry and trading circles over the past decades. The samples for obtaining export orders are developed in the factories known to me and once approved, The garments are produced in these units and exported.
