The thesis describes the surface deformation behavior and susceptibility to surface damage in clay-reinforced intercalated polymer nanocomposites systems in terms of characteristics of scratch morphology and scratch deformation parameters. EXPERIENCE IN MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) (Hitachi S3000N), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA), mechanical scratch tester, brabender extruder, carver press and mechanical property testing techniques MTS (impact strength, and tensile strength). WORK EXPERIENCE Research Assistant -University of Louisiana at Lafayette August 2004 – May 2006 Assisted team in the development and design of novel techniques to determine scratch and mar resistance of polymer nanocomposites. Studied microstructural mechanisms associated with surface deformation of these polymer nanocomposites using SEM. Teaching Assistant -University of Louisiana at Lafayette August 2004 – May 2005 Assisted in lab set-up for an undergraduate level chemistry class. Provided assistance with developing tests and grading papers. Practical Training (Trainee Engineer) -Bharat Petroleum (BPCL), Mumbai, India January 2003 Worked on Diesel Hydrodesulphurization (DHDS) complex. Learned intricacies involved in various process operation such as fixed bed catalytic system, High and low-pressure separation, stripping and fractionation.
