SPECIFICATIONS: Sign posts shall be treated with chromated copper arsenate (CCA) or PENTACHLOROPHENOLPETROLEUM solution and shall conform to the North Carolina Department of Transportation “Standard Specifications for Roads and Structures” dated January 1, 2002, except that the minimum retention for CCA or PENTACHLOROPHENOL shall be 0.6 lb. of dry chemical per cubic foot of wood. Section 1082 of the Standard Specifications refers to AWPA Specifications. The AWPA Specifications require the treating plant to have laboratory facilities and equipment available for use by the buyer or his representative. The laboratory will be used to determine retention of assay and analyze the treatment solution. Should the treating plant fail to make laboratory facilities available to the North Carolina Division of Highways or its representative, the treating plant will be charged a laboratory fee for the assay of the boring and the analysis of the treating solution. Inspection before and after treatment at the treating plant by the Department of Transportation or their representative is required for all forest products.
