I managed life with my meager resources until the elder of my two children; Helen (10 years old) was struck down by an illness. I have carried her from one hospital to the other until she was diagnosed of a hole in the heart. Since receiving that news I have gone borrowing from everyone I can, but what I received is a token of the money required for the operation. When I became worn out I had no option than to go to my husbands family who insisted that I take her to a herbal home. My refusal has attracted condemnation from them. Members of the family have physically assaulted me thrice. I am now very scared and totally unwilling to go near them. My daughter passionately reminds me not to let her die. Considering the fact that I had eleven children with only two survivors, I cannot afford to lose her. I was considering taking my life to end it all when I spoke to another widow who counseled me not to end it all. She it was who advised me to keep trying. With time running out, I am feeling increasingly uncomfortable with her health condition. She lies down all day and have seriously emaciated. I wish to use this medium to appeal to all well-meaning individuals to rise to my assistance. I believe God will surely touch the minds of those who share my plight. As I write this mail, I cannot say what my children will eat in the next few days. As we have consumed the entire foodstuff we have. My consolation is that I believe that there are people who feel, know and believe that man should be his brother's keeper. The hospital where she is lying is requesting 70% down payment before treatment can commence. I am left alone to source about $ 15,000 thousand dollars or watch my daughter die. She is my only reason to be alive, more so, with a very hostile family in-law to contend with. Life cannot be more frightening than this. Each time I summon the courage to look at my daughter, all she says audibly is " MUMMY DON'T LET ME DIE LIKE THIS". I have promised her I wound try everything I can to ensure she doesn't die. She is very optimistic that help would come, when I told her of my intention to solicit for help.
