Inquiry (采购产品): purchase of uv-vis Dear Folks, The UMass Chem Dept purchased a UV-VIS a couple of years ago or so. The contact person was Dave Sommerfeld. I do not have the details of the instrument in front of me but I wish to consider purchasing a second identical instrument. One of our faculty, Peter Khalifah, recently spoke with someone at Buck about this and said that what we want is about $6500. (his message below) Once I see the specs and agree that this is the instrument that I wish to purchase I will need a quote. So for now would you please give me the details of the instrument that Dave Sommerfeld purchased previously and let me know what options are available that might be of interest to me. This instrument will be used in an undergrad organic and inorganic lab. Thanks. Peter Samal (Khalifah email to me: "I just chatted with Buck for a while. The uv-vis with printer currently goes for $6500. We can knock $500 of the cost by ditching the printer, and $1000 off the cost by ditching the uv part, and just measuring in the visible range. Neither strikes me as a great option. I didn't get a definitive answer on this, but instead of giving an academic discount, it appears that an academic purchase will result in a couple more functionalities (kinetics, scan) being activated for free (I think David ended up paying ~$500 for these on the previous instrument).
